ISBP 821 Guide

This suite is a searchable, section-by-section version of ISBP 821 (International Standard Banking Practice for the Examination of Documents under UCP 600) — the ICC's operational interpretation of how UCP 600 applies in practice, paragraph by paragraph.

How to Use It:

Practical Techniques:

Before flagging a transport-document discrepancy, filter to "Transport" and check the paragraphs on notify party, on-board notations, and "freight prepaid/collect" wording — ISBP interprets UCP Articles 19-27 in far more operational detail than the UCP text alone.
When examining drafts and invoices, use the "Drafts/Inv" filter to confirm rules on invoice issuer, description of goods matching the credit, and permissible currency/amount tolerances before rejecting a set.
Search for "date" to pull every paragraph touching document-dating conventions (issuance vs. shipment date, signature date, validity) — a frequent source of discrepant presentations.
Use the "Certificates" filter when checking certificates of origin, inspection certificates, or insurance certificates for issuer, content, and consistency against the credit and other documents.
