About this directory

This directory lists international freight forwarders and logistics providers with their headquarters, service types, accreditations and websites. Use the search and filters above to explore it, or see the ranking table below.

  • Freight forwarder — arranges transport on your behalf, books space with carriers, prepares documents and often handles customs and insurance.
  • NVOCC (non-vessel operating common carrier) — a forwarder that issues its own house bill of lading and consolidates cargo without owning ships.
  • FIATA — the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations, whose documents such as the FIATA bill of lading are widely recognised.
  • IATA cargo agent — a forwarder accredited to book and issue air waybills directly with airlines.

How to choose a freight forwarder

  • Lane experience. Ask for recent shipments on your exact route; a forwarder strong on Asia–Europe may be weak on Africa or the Americas.
  • Own offices or agents at both ends. This matters for customs clearance and problem-solving at destination.
  • All-in quotes. Compare door-to-door prices including local charges, not just the ocean freight line. Use the landed cost calculator to see the full picture.
  • Insurance and liability. Standard forwarder liability is limited; buy cargo insurance for valuable goods. See the cargo insurance portal.
  • Documents and payment terms. If you trade on letters of credit, pick a forwarder used to strict document checks; see the documentary credits workbench.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a freight forwarder and a shipping line?

A shipping line owns or operates the vessels. A freight forwarder buys space from shipping lines and airlines and organises the whole journey for you, often combining several carriers and services.

What is the difference between a house and a master bill of lading?

The master bill of lading is issued by the shipping line to the forwarder. The house bill of lading is issued by the forwarder (acting as NVOCC) to the shipper for each consolidated shipment.

Is a freight forwarder the same as a customs broker?

Not always. A customs broker is licensed to clear goods through customs. Many forwarders hold a broker licence or work with one, but the roles are legally different in many countries.

What does FIATA membership mean?

It means the forwarder belongs to a national association affiliated with FIATA, which sets standard trading conditions and documents such as the FIATA bill of lading.

How do I get a freight quote?

Send the forwarder the origin and destination, commodity, HS code, weight, volume or container type, Incoterm and ready date. See the Incoterms guide for which costs each side pays.
